What was it about this that so captivated 1950's America at the time?

Remember Memphis was "Country" music and Elvis brought in the combination of country, rock & the blues and combined them in a lot of his songs. No one had sung nor moved like that before...it was daring, he had a great voice and great moves. Actually, he had it all - at the time.
