How can I remove or at least diminish a facial scar?

I managed to cut myself on the forehead a few weeks ago with a screwdriver while repairing my motorbike (don't ask how it happened, it was embarringly silly). Its left a pretty nasty scar and I was wondering if there is some way to at least diminish it that does not involve surgery or expensive remedies.
