What do guys mean when they say they like you?

I guess this is more of a general question but my situation is that i have been talking to this guy online through skype cuz we live in different places but we enjoy talking to eachother and he's been more of a friend to me than many people i have known here for years. And he is always saying he likes me alot. But what could he mean by this? Could he have feelings for me or can it just be that he likes just plainly likes talking to me like you would any other friend?? Dont worry im not concerned in how we can get this into a kind of long distance relationship thing cuz thats pointless and he has a love interest there anyways.. which is why i ask this because he did mention to me the other day he was kinda divided/confused as to how he feels about this.... i kinda have feelings for him but not really since i know hes so far. Just some perspective would be nice. Thanks!
